The handles are 45% larger to distribute weight more evenly and make it easier to carry the casserole dish from the hob, to the oven and finally to the table, even if you are wearing oven gloves. And you will want this casserole dish on your table since not only does it look great, but the cast iron keeps food warmer for longer, so it really is the perfect dish for serving as well as cooking.
The enamel interior has been toughened to make it even more durable and resistant to scratching and staining. It also makes it easier to clean, although if you want (and have room!) you can just pop this casserole dish in the dishwasher.
The classic black knob has been replaced with a stylish stainless steel knob that is heat resistant and more comfortable to grip.
The lid has been updated with built-in stabilizers so that it is more tight-fitting. This helps to seal in flavour and moisture, but also keeps the inside of your oven clean if, for example, you are cooking a crumble that’s at risk of bubbling over the sides. The branding and rings on the top of the lid have also been enhanced for a bolder look.
Not new, but just as important, this casserole dish is suitable for use on any type of hob, including induction and can withstand oven temperatures of up to 190°C. And since it is made from a single piece of cast iron, the thickness is consistent across the entire dish, so heat spreads evenly from the base to the rim.
This shallow casserole dish can be used for cooking a wide range of things, such as stir-fries, risottos, paella, even tarts and pies and food always looks really good in it.
